Outfielder Billy Burns

With two outs, the bases loaded and the Sounds down by a run in the bottom of the 8th inning, center fielder Billy Burns stepped to the plate and singled in a pair of runs to provide the margin of victory for Nashville on Sunday. Burns collected 4 hits on the day, stole a base and scored twice, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman singled, doubled and also drove in a pair for the Sounds. Starter Dillon Overton was charged with 5 runs in 7 innings of work, while RHP Tucker Healy tossed a scoreless 8th to earn his 4th win, and LHP Patrick Schuster pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his 6th save for the Sounds. And with RHP Jesse Hahn’s return to the A’s on Sunday, Arismendy Alcantara was optioned back to Nashville.

LHP Brandon Mann had a shaky start in his return to the RockHounds, allowing 5 runs over 4 2/3 innings to suffer the loss on Sunday. But RHP Jake Sanchez was impressive in relief, pitching 2 1/3 perfect frames while striking out 4 of the 7 batters he faced. The Hounds were shut out on just 5 hits on Sunday. Left fielder J.P. Sportman singled and doubled in the loss.

Starter Kyle Friedrichs allowed 3 runs on 9 hits over 5 innings of work to suffer his 3rd loss for Stockton on Sunday. RHP Koby Gauna was solid in relief, pitching 2 perfect innings while throwing just 15 pitches for the Ports. Center fielder James Harris singled in Stockton’s sole run in the 5th inning, while second baseman Mikey White doubled, and catcher Iolana Akau had a pair of hits in the loss. Meanwhile, Stockton starting pitcher Matt Sergey was activated from the disabled list on Sunday.

RHP Boomer Biegalski struggled through a rough start for the Snappers on Sunday, surrendering 5 runs in just 2 innings of work to suffer his 5th loss, while LHP Zack Erwin allowed 2 runs in 4 innings of relief in his first appearance for the Snappers. Third baseman Jean Carlo Rodriguez and right fielder Robert Martinez both belted 2-run homers for Beloit, while left fielder Justin Higley slugged a solo shot in the loss.

21-year-old Venezuelan LHP Ivan Andueza delivered a strong start for the Lake Monsters on Sunday, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work, and he left the game with the lead. But RHP Marc Berube was charged with 4 runs in 1 inning of relief to take the loss. Designated hitter Miguel Mercedes singled and homered, while center fielder James Terrell collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Vermont.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Oscar Tovar

(5 IP / 1 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 4 K)

Talented 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Oscar Tovar turned in his second straight outstanding start for the AZL A’s, allowing just 1 hit over 5 shutout innings on Sunday. And Tovar has now given up just 2 hits and struck out 9 in 10 scoreless innings over his last 2 starts for the A’s. But RHP Wandisson Charles surrendered 2 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Nick Highberger gave up 1 run in 1 inning of work to take the loss. Second baseman Josh Vidales collected 3 hits, including a double, while right fielder Rob Bennie had 2 hits and drove in a pair in the loss.
